Plans $1.5M in Grants to PA-based Companies and Universities

Proposals being accepted for developments in digital & analog electronics;
robotic technologies & applications and cyber security.

Pittsburgh, PA – July 10, 2008 - The Technology Collaborative (TTC), a statewide economic development organization that supports the growth of Pennsylvania’s world-class robotics, cyber-security and digital technologies industries, announced today that it expects to award $1.5 million in technology commercialization funding to universities, start-up companies, and established companies based in Pennsylvania on or before December 1, 2008.

“We look forward to receiving proposals that focus on commercializing innovative technology from universities and companies of all sizes, and we strongly encourage collaboration between these groups" said David Ruppersberger, CEO of The Technology Collaborative.  “These grants are part of our Technology Commercialization Initiative, a vital component of our mission to leverage the assets we have throughout the Commonwealth to create new products, new companies and high-quality jobs.”

Through a competitive selection process, TTC intends to award funding five to ten projects that address key engineering design challenges, show a high degree of innovation and most importantly, identify a clear path to commercialization with the potential to significantly impact digital and/or robotics related to companies in Pennsylvania.

Draft proposals are due August 8, 2008.  The final proposal submission deadline is September 12, 2008, 5 PM EST.

About The Technology Collaborative
The Technology Collaborative (TTC) is a not-for-profit, member-driven, technology-based economic development organization focused on starting, attracting, and growing robotics, cyber-security and digital technology companies. Funding from federal, state, foundation, and member organizations supports our various programs to develop and commercialize technology, subsidize education and training, recruit world-class talent, incubate and mentor early-stage companies, and facilitate networking.  TTC works with other regional economic development organizations to implement an end-to-end strategy for transitioning technology from the Commonwealth’s universities into commercial products that are designed, engineered, produced, marketed and sold by companies based in Pennsylvania.
