Advantech has created an in-line fabrication technology for producing thin film electronic backplanes for displays at exceptionally low cost and reliability using Dr. Brody’s proven technologies. Thin film transistor (TFT) backplanes are manufactured using simple, inexpensive and effective shadow mask deposition technology. Advantech has perfected the shadow mask design and process management that has plagued other manufacturers for years.
The company intends to exploit this technology to manufacture active matrix TFT backplanes for OEM sale and licensing to the developing organic light emitting diode (OLED) display and Electronic Paper (e-paper) industries. In October 2009 Advantech received an order to build the world’s first inline manufacturing system to make TFT backplanes for G2 (up to 18” diagonal) OLED displays. This G2 line will be delivered to the customer in China in late 2010.
